From the middle of Viale Europa, on the top of Monte Urpino, there is a wonderful
360 view of Cagliari and its surroundings. One can see as far as the Mountains of
Sette Fratelli.
Around the city there are two lagoons, with both fresh and brackish waters.

The pond of Molentargius is a rare example of wet lands inside a city area. The exploitation
of the pond as a source of salt is said to have started in ancient times. Behind
Poetto beach, one can see the saltpans, with their extraordinary colored waters which change color depending on the concentration of salt .
The whole pond area, which the "Ramsar Convention", designated as one of the wet lands
of international importance, is populated by numerous species of birds. Among them
are colonies of pink flamingos.
